Why we support the RoSPA Level 2 Award in Proportionate/Single-Handed Care Practice

Approved RoSPA Qualifications Centre, TPG Disable Aids, tells us why they offer our proportionate/single-handed care qualification and what benefits this approach has for staff and those receiving care.

TPG DisableAids is a long-established family-based company operating from Hereford. Their main activities include supplying disability aids and mobility equipment, covering sales, servicing, hire, advice and support, which now includes their new training academy.

The company serves Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, including surrounding areas and much of Wales, with products like wheelchairs, hoists, specialist toilets, beds, mattresses, recliner chairs. It provides training aimed at enhancing independence and quality of life for people with disabilities and elderly customers.

Jayme Bacon from TPG DisableAids says: “We are an approved RoSPA Qualifications Centre, which enables us to deliver accredited health and safety training. This partnership reflects our commitment to high-quality training standards, particularly in areas like safer people handling and proportionate/single-handed care.

“Our position on proportionate care has evolved to embrace ‘single-handed’ or proportionate care practices. This change was driven by the emerging evidence and qualifications, such as RoSPA’s Proportionate/Single-Handed Care Practice Qualification, enhancing care efficiency and dignity. The change came about as part of adopting person-centred, efficient, safer care approaches to meet modern care challenges

“We think that proportionate care offers more dignified, person-centred care that promotes independence by enabling individuals to do as much as possible themselves. It reduces hospital readmissions by around 11 per cent, improves patient flow in care systems, and enables care teams to manage workloads more efficiently. It also fosters better relationships between caregivers and care receivers and supports better mental and physical health outcomes.

“Learners have responded positively to the training offered under this model. The qualification is designed to upskill care workers to perform moving and handling on their own safely, which has increased their skills and job satisfaction. The training emphasises practical, person-centred care, which learners find valuable in improving care standards and outcomes.

“TPG DisableAids would recommend working with RoSPA Qualifications because they provide government-regulated, expert-led training that meets high standards in health and safety. RoSPA qualifications include formal assessments, dedicated support and have a strong reputation for delivering quality training that aligns with legislative requirements, ultimately enhancing safety and competence in care environments.”
